The idea is to have a set that looks amazing lit, but disappears in the dark. I wanted something with some variation and a bit of flow. I also wanted a quick set. I can assure you this one was not quick! ....you win some, you loose some.
I bought 25' rolls of black weed block and smeared white, grey, and red paint in curved patterns on it. I used a couple of old rags to dip and spread the paint. The paint bled through the weed block, so be sure to do this set on a sheet of scrap plywood. I chose the 3 colors to give it come variation and texture. Also be prepared to be covered head to toe in paint.
We stretched out the weed block and weighted the corners with cinder blocks. We painted 15' at a time and were covered in paint by the end of the project (notice recurring theme).
I used zipties to attach it. I found that they ripped out too easily. In the future I will wrap a piece of 1 by inside the top and bottom to create a hem to attach to. This is one of those sets I was never happy with. It had a lot more potential I was never able to capture. Some day I will improve on it. However it served its purpose and worked ok for its short life.
